The cerebellum has a characteristic "leaf-like" structure. It is responsible for the coordination of voluntary muscles and hence the maintenance of body balance. However, it must be noted that the "sensors" of the inner ear also collect information about body position and movement and send them to the brain for interpretation. [Back to Human anatomy menu]
